Lim Say Cheong is currently the CEO of Saudi Venture Capital Investment Company, a full fledged Sharia-compliant Capital Market company, licensed by the Capital Markets Authority of Saudi Arabia. He is responsible for the overall success of the company and for leading the development and execution of its long-term strategies with the goal of creating shareholders’ value. He also leads in all aspects of business including Advisory, Arranging and Distribution. Lim brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience from the financial services and capital markets industry of more than 25 years.
He was formerly the CEO for Lootah Global Capital, a financial services company wholly owned by Lootah Holding and licensed by the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). He also had a stint as Global Head of Islamic Business Development with Nomura Asset Management. Lim was responsible for growing the Islamic assets for Nomura Asset Management Group globally.
Lim had previously worked for more than a decade in the UAE, first with Noor Islamic Bank as the Executive Director for Global Markets and then he served as Executive Vice President and Head of Investment Banking with Al Hilal Bank, Abu Dhabi where he led the development and growth of the Capital Markets, Asset Management, Discretionary Mandate and Proprietary Investments of the bank. Under his able leadership, the Al Hilal GCC Equity Fund was voted the Best Islamic Fund in 2013 and 2014. He was also instrumental in securing A1/A+ credit rating by Moody’s/Fitch for the bank.
Lim graduated from the prestigious INSEAD Business School (France) with an Executive MBA. He also holds Diploma in Islamic Finance from CIMA, UK and Bachelor of Science Degree with double majors in Mathematics and Quantitative Economics from the University of Sydney, Australia. In 2002, Lim was conferred the Certified Financial Planner™ (CFP®) designation, the gold standard for financial planning professionals, by the CFP Board USA.
A renowned Islamic Finance practitioner and industry thought leader, Lim contributes articles on Islamic Finance regularly and has been invited to speak in conferences around the world. As an acknowledgment of his leadership excellence, Lim was awarded the acclaimed Cambridge Islamic Finance Leadership Award 2022 in Clare College, University of Cambridge.
