The 10th Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum : Islamic Finance – Initiatives, Opportunities, and Linkages

Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum or also known as KLIFF is the annual prestigious event since 2004 which all the Lawyers, Bankers, Academicians, Legal Advisors, Financiers, and Shariah advisors are looking forward. This time, the event took place at Hotel Istana, Kuala Lumpur from 23rd September until 25th September 2013. Since it is the 10th anniversary, the event has been more appealing than before.

This informative and magnificent conference “Muzakarah Penasihat Syariah Kewangan Islam 2013 Kali ke-8” has been officiated by Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, the Group Chairman, Amanie Advisor. The session has been held until 5pm which include 4 sessions of conference. This involves international and regional syariah advisors and scholars; Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, Group Chairman, Amanie Advisor, Sheikh Nizam Yaquby the Syariah Advisor from Bahrain and CIMB Islamic, Sheikh Esam Ishaq, Shariah Advisor from Bahrain, Tan Sri Sheikh Ghazali, and Prof. Dr. Engku Rabiah Adawiah Engku Ali which is both, a member of Shariah Council of Bank Negara Malaysia and Securities Commission of Malaysia and other recognized speakers.

It is not just as a place for knowledge, but also for networking! Islamic banking has become essential nowadays. Some conventional banks are needed to apply this kind of system in theirs.

The Main forum (KLIFF 2013) has been officiated by YAB Tan Sri Dato’ Hj. Muhyiddin bin Hj. Mohd Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia for the opening KLIFF on 24th September 2013.
Meanwhile, on the night of 24th September 2013, there were Dinner and Awards presentation which has been officiated by Y. Bhg Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar, Minister in Prime Minister’s Department. Y. Bhg Tan Sri Dato’ Nor Mohamed Yakcop, Deputy Chairman Khazanah Nasional Berhad, Y.Bhg. Y. Bhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Mohd Munir Abdul Majid, the Chairman of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad, Dato’ Haji Mohd Redza Shah Abdul Wahid, the CEO of Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad and all international and regional professionals came to enliven the conference. This dinner was hosted by Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad.

KLIFF Roundtable was held on the next day, 25th September 2013, Wednesday. The Roundtable starts at 11 am until 1 pm. As expected, reason to hold such roundtable is to attract scholars, bankers and regulators of Islamic Financial systems and formed a discussions which were focusing on theories and applications related to the topics of Waqf and Islamic Finance. This roundtable was by invitation only. The presenters include Dr. Mohd Daud Bakar, Dato’ Mohd Redza Shah, CEO of Bank Muamalat, Dr. Shamsiah Abdul Karim the Assistant Director, Asset Development Zakat and Wakaf Strategic Unit (MUIS), Sheikh Nizam Yaquby, Sheikh Esam Ishaq, Richard Thomas and more to join.

In objective to promote how the Islamic Financial system works globally, this event has been attended by delegates from across the world and not to forget local. Furthermore, very capable and outstanding speakers were invited in order to share their knowledge and experiences which has the credibility (qualifications and expertise) in forwarding the topic of our talk. More than 30 distinguished international and regional speakers have been scheduled to talk during the KLIFF 2013 include Chief Executive Officers from Malaysia which are Badlisyah Abd Ghani, CEO of CIMB Islamic, Richard Thomas, Chief Representative Gatehouse Bank Malaysia Office, Rafe Haneef, CEO of HSBC Amanah Malaysia, Muzaffar Hisham, CEO of Maybank Islamic, Wasim Saifi, CEO of Standard Chartered Saadiq, Rushdi Siddiqui Co Founder & MD, Azka Capital and many others.

In addition, Shariah Scholars from Bahrain also joined and attend the conference which were, Sheikh Nizam Yaquby, Sheikh Esam Ishaq Shariah Scholar, and more to share their experiences and point of views throughout the conference.

KLIFF has been organized since 2004. It is not just as a place for knowledge, but also for networking! Islamic banking has become essential nowadays. Some conventional banks are needed to apply this kind of system in theirs.

KLIFF Dinner & Islamic Finance Awards Presentation 2013

C entre for Research and Training (CERT), in collaboration with Messrs Hisham Sobri & Kadir (HSK), Amanie Advisors and the Association of Islamic Banking Institutions Malaysia (AIBIM) has organized a very pleasant the 10th Kuala Lumpur Islamic Finance Forum (KLIFF 2013) Dinner and Awards Presentation on 24 September 2013 at the Mahkota Grand Ballroom, Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur.

A special dedication award to Y. Bhg Tan Sri Dato’ Nor Mohamed Yakcop who has brought up and solving the Malaysian economy during the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997/1998 has been held pleasantly. After the awards presentation, a montage of Y. Bhg Tan Sri was screened to honor his contributions and investments in Islamic Finance. Y. Bhg Tan Sri received an appreciation award and also the Lifetime Leadership Award in Islamic Finance award.

Finally, the ceremony ends by giving a token of appreciation from the host, Y. Bhg Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Mohd Munir Abdul Majid to Y. B Senator Dato’ Sri Abdul Wahid Omar.
